The Case for Digital Transformation Strategy

By Daniel Legall

Digital Transformation is currently a hot topic in the corporate environment. Businesses accelerating their digital transformation isn't only due to the Pandemic, but also due to the evolution in consumer behavior, unprecedented technological advances, continuous innovations and the need to have processes and frameworks digitized. The Pandemic, if anything, just added fuel to the fire that was already kindling, but even now, many companies consider digital transformation a disruption, either financially or technically.

Of course, we could sit down and discuss all of the benefits that Digital Transformation brings to an organization, whether small or large, but truth be told, there are five key reasons to do so:

1. It Facilitates Greater Efficiency and Productivity

Technology makes our lives easier, and it saves us time. If you're integrating digital processes into your business operations, you're weeding out redundant and time-consuming activities surrounding data storage, communication, and analytics, to name a few. Most people equate Digital Transformation to cloud technology, but it encompasses more than that; it improves insights, data gathering, and collaboration between internal departments for enhanced productivity and growth.

2. It Increases Your Resiliency

Most companies that had already taken the jump to the digital world when the Pandemic hit were the same companies that stood up and rose to the occasion. We can't predict the next global event or crisis. Still, we can undoubtedly be prepared for it by creating a workflow that responds to the current climate in the digital world: the metaverse and automation technologies, in conjunction with web 3.0, blockchain, and cryptos, are just a few examples of new avenues in which the technological world is evolving and how companies from banking institutions to governments are taking them into account when mapping their strategies.

3. It Enhances the Customer Experience

Digital transformation brings an incredible customer experience alive. You can not only play with personalization, but also use machine learning, mobile applications, automation, artificial intelligence, and other technologies to make consumers feel important and appreciated. When Jeff Bezos decided to include the review section on product pages on Amazon, people warned him that this was going to be a way to show his competitors of possible weak points with their products. It turns out that people felt wholly empowered to leave their opinions and recommendations. This is just an example of how customer service can be taken to the next level in a digital context and meaningful way.

4. It Facilitates Data-Driven Decision-Making

With Digitization came the emergence of big data. This form of data is intensive; it is gathered from customers' patterns and analytics on websites, advertising, and email campaigns. Decision-makers can use these large volumes of data to find meaningful insights for their organization; for example, after launching a social media ad campaign, you might discover browsing patterns when customers visit your website, which then can help you optimize and arrange your website in a way that is more intuitive to your customers.

5. It Promotes Innovative Culture

Around 68% of companies rank agility within the top 3 considerations for digital transformation. Your organization must respond quickly and rise to the challenges imposed by the evolving digital environment. Shifts in a digital culture powered by building an innovation mindset help your team to remain upskilled, sustainable, and incisive to improvements and developments.

However, Digitization is only effective as long as it is part of an integrated business strategy. As per reports, CEOs waste roughly $900 billion on failed initiatives because they overlook vital factors such as industry readiness and the multifaceted nature of transformations. Nike, P&G, and Lego are just a few examples of household brands that have experienced difficulties in their Digital Transformation journey.
